Reason for Loss | Practice bombing over the Ot Moor ranges. During the exercise, the Hampden was in the process of diving when structural failure occurred and at least one wing came off as the aircraft plummeted to the ground at 0940 at Fencott Bridge near Chalton on Ot Moor, some 6 miles NNE Oxford. Cause of crash-mechanical failure. The aircraft crashed at Islip and all members of the crew were killed. Crashed at 0949. |
