End Date | 15-05-1943 |
Takeoff Station | Lichfield |
Day/Night Raid | Night (74% moon) |
Operation | Night cross country |
Reason for Loss | Aircraft took off at 2241hrs on a night cross-country combined with a Bull's-eye operation (indicative of operational sortie with a dedicated target for the cross-country exercise). At 0234hrs the wireless operator Sgt Lee sent a brief standby message signal but before the main message could be transmitted the aircraft dived vertically into the ground narrowly missing an isolated farmhouse, 1 mile N of Lake Vyrnwy in Montgomeryshire. |
