Reason for Loss | Sunderland Echo August 18th 1942: "Durham Airman Drowned. Lawrence Edward Cassidy, R.A.F., of Stanley, was drowned in attempting to save his wife after their punt was involved in a collision with a pleasure steamer on the River Avon near Evesham (Worcestershire), yesterday. Cassidy disappeared and his body has not been recovered, but dragging operations are continuing. Mrs. Cassidy was rescued by people on the pleasure steamer." |
