Reason for Loss | Took off from Hemswell for a successful attack. Landed at West Raynham but stalled, crashed and caught fire on takeoff when returning to home station injuring the pilot S/L George Frank Lerwill and killing the rest of the crew. S/L Lerwill returned to ops on 29 September. He survived the war after completing tours in GB and Mediterranean. He served as a liaison officer with US 9th Air Force between 1943-1944 and has recorded oral histories with IWM. |
