Miscellaneous Information
Wilfred was born on 28 May 1911 in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan. His father was a merchant and druggist born In Norwood, Ontario and his mother was born in Morris, Manitoba. He had four brothers John, Gordon, Kenneth and Laurence and sisters Lilian, Katheryn. Muriel and Lois. Gordon was in the RCAF. The Schools Wilfred attended were Lloydminster Public. 1918-1925 (grade 8), Lloydminster High 1925-1929 (grades 9-12) Matric. He also attended the University of Alberta 1929-30 and 1931- 1932(Faculty of arts and law). Sport interests were hockey, swimming, baseball, etc and his hobbies were radio, reading and riding. Wilfred worked as a pilot and crew man at the Goldfields of Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company. He was secretary and treasurer of the Edmonton Aero Club and was also a commercial pilot. |
He enlisted in 1939 and undertook his initial training before embarking for the U.K. He arrived at 3PRC, then went on to 20 OTU 6 April 1942 and 14 OTU on the following day. Wilfred sadly lost his life the following month on 31 May 1942. |
