Miscellaneous Information
Mentioned in Despatches June 1943 |
Most sources incorrectly quote this aircraft's serial number as ED535 |
He received his MiD as a result of flak. Shell splinters entered the aircraft and struck him while he was reaching up to adjust his radio, causing injury to his face and arms. He refused treatment while he tried to get his radio working and only when it was apparent that the radio was beyond repair did he accept medical assistance from his crew. At the time he was on the strength of 103 Sqn and upon recovery joined another crew with 460 Sqn. He was also the cousin of Tony Burcher, rear gunner on 617 Sqn, who survived the war. |
