Miscellaneous Information
George was born on 4 May 1915 at Deloraine, Manitoba. His parents were both born in Belfast, Ireland and his father was a farmer. His mother died in 1944. He had three brothers, John, Robert and William and two sisters, Nellie and Christena. His brother William was a Gunner in the Canadian Army overseas. His schooling was at Dand Elementary 1922-1929 ( general) and also Dand High school 1929-1933 ( grade XI). He also attended the Deloraine Collegiate Institute. George grew up on his father’s farm where he worked from 1933-1939 and then worked as a surveyor at Flin Flon from 1939-1942 when he enlisted. |
After enlisting on 11 May 1942 and early training, he embarked from New York on 9 March 1943 arriving at 3 PRC on 18 March 1943. From there he went to 16 OTU on 30 March, 1660 CU 10 June 1943, 51 Base 4 January 1944 and 106 Squadron 31 March 1944. It was from here that George lost his life on 27 April 1944. |
