Miscellaneous Information
Joseph was born on 25 July 1917 at Halifax, Nova Scotia the son of William Ernest Brissenden and Esther Susannah Brissenden (Olsen) of Halifax. His father was born at Gravesend, Kent, England and is shown as a Development Engineer for CPR. Also shown as Lieutenant Commander R.C.N. His mother was born in Ironwood, Michigan, USA. The schools he attended were both in Lachine: Public School 1925-1932 and Lachine High 1932-1936. He also went to McGill University 1938 -1939 studying Agriculture. He played a lot of sport and particularly enjoyed athletics. Joseph worked in the Mines and was a Chute blaster 1936-1937 at Paymaster Mine, he then returned to school. He then became a Timber man 1938-1939 also at Paymaster Mine, then he returned to college and finally at Broulan Mine 1939 as an Engineers assistant. |
He enlisted at Halifax on 4 June 1940 and after his initial training was posted to England where he arrived on 2 March 1941. He was at 20 OTU on 15 March 1941 but very sadly was to lose his life from there a few weeks later on 15 May 1941. |
