Miscellaneous Information
George was born on 29 February 1912 at Dauphin, Manitoba. His father a C. N.R conductor was born at Fort William, Ontario and his mother (died in 1914), was born in Iceland. The schools he attended were all in Manitoba. Dauphin Public School 1918-1925, followed by Dauphin Collegiate Institute, 1926-1927 followed by Swan River High School 1927-1929. He then studied banking at Shaw’s Correspondence school in 1931. His sport interests were hockey, baseball and tennis and his main hobby was shooting and he also enjoyed driving. George worked for one year at Robson's Drug store as a clerk, followed by Izons grocery store as a clerk in 1929. George then spent some time as a fire fighter for the Forestry Department of Manitoba and then completed eleven years as a clerk at the Bank of Toronto. |
He enlisted on 28 June 1940 and then married Elsie Bertha Hart on 28 December the same year, at Timmins. After enlisting and initial training he was posted to the U.K. and arrived at 3 PRC on 20 April 1941. He was then at 20 OTU on 27 April 1941 followed by 103 Squadron on 23 June 1941. George sadly lost his life on 10 September 1941. |
