Dans la nuit du 28/29 Juillet 1944, le Lancaster III PB253 UL-A2, du 576 Sqn de la RAF, participant à une mission sur Stuttgart est abattu par un chasseur de nuit au dessus de la commune de Renauvoid. L avion avait décollé de la base aérienne de Elsham Wolds, dans le Lincolnshire. Le pilote est éjecté lorsque l'avion explose. Blessé, il est fait prisonnier. Les six autres aviateurs trouvent la mort et sont inhumés au cimetière de Chaumousey.
Translation "On the night of July 28-29, 1944, Lancaster III PB253 UL-A2 of No. 576 Sqn, RAF, on a mission to Stuttgart, was shot down by a nightfighter over the village of Renauvoid. The aircraft had taken off from RAF Elsham Wolds in Lincolnshire. The pilot ejected when the plane exploded. Wounded, he was taken prisoner. The six other airmen were killed and buried in Chaumousey Cemetery" |
