An RAF Officer since 1937, Squadron Leader Barnard was easily the most senior and experienced Pilot present at 14 OTU, RAF Cottesmore in May 1942 on Course 46 as he trained to fly operationally with Bomber Command. He had returned to the UK in February 1941 from Egypt where he had been flying Wellingtons operationally. |
