Reason for Loss | Aircraft took off from Sandtoft at 1250 hrs for dual instruction flight, the crew comprising of an Instructor, pupil Pilot, four Flight Endineers, Navigator, Air Bomber and Wireless Operator/Air Gunner. Aircraft lost control at 200 feet while on three engines and crashed at Alkborough on the South bank of the river Humber, 7 miles NNW of Scunthorpe. Withing 30 minutes of the crash Flight Lieutenant Brown the unit Medical Officer and Ambulance was on scene. Of the nine crew only two survived the accident |
