Miscellaneous Information
His father Louis had worked as a salesman and died in June 1941. His parents married in Manchester in 1906 and he had seven siblings; five brothers and two sisters. Herman attended Fairmount school between 1928 and 1935 where he completed his Elementary schooling, then went on to Baron Byng High 1936-40 and then to Sir George Williams Technical School where he took a commercial Course between 1940-41. He worked as an Office clerk at Backler Ltd, hat manufacturers from 1941 onwards |
Herman enlisted on 21 October 1942. After his early training in Canada he embarked for England on 14 December 1943 and disembarked in the U.K. on the 21st. After 3 PRC he went through 83 OTU and 11 Base before going on to 576 Squadron on 28 January 1944. |
The sports he enjoyed were skiing tennis and swimming. |
