Dennis’s father, Ray, was a stockbroker and was the son of the children’s author, James Harwood Panting (1854-1924). Ray enlisted with the Durham Light Infantry on 21 November 1916 and served until being taken Prisoner of War in 1918. |
During 1939, Dennis became engaged to Margaret Elizabeth (known as “Muffet”) Jones. She had been born in Kuala Lumpur on on 10 February 1917 but, with her parents, moved to Epsom in the late 1930s. |
