His DFC was promulgated without citation in the London Gazette on 23 May 1944 (103 Squadron). |
On 6-7 May 1944 his 156 Squadron Lancaster III ND449 GT-M (Captain F/L H.D. Churchill DFC*) crashed in France and he and three other crew members successfully evaded capture. He made his way through France and Spain to Gibraltar along with F/Sgt Meer and arrived back at RAF Whitchurch on 25 June 1944 via a Dakota. |

Reason for Loss | Mid-air collision with DH Vampire FB. 5 VZ188 12 miles east north east of Fayid Egypt. The Vampire carried out a head on attack against the aircraft but failed to pull away and they were involved in a head on collision. The Vampire was an FB5 serial VZ188 of 213 Sqn and the pilot was Pilot II Stanislaw DABROWSKI 28. |
