Miscellaneous Information
An inquest returned a verdict of accidental death after his car overturned, pinning him down and causing suffocation. His fiancé, Miss Barbara Rogers of Peacehaven, was travelling as a passenger and was thrown clear of the vehicle. The inquest heard that because the vehicle was lying in a culvert, only mechanical means such as a crane would have been able to move it to free P/O Barton and no attempt by those who attended the scene would have been likely to have succeeded. His fiancé commented that they were returning from an evening in London and P/O Barton had commented that he was tired was struggling to stay awake. |
