Miscellaneous Information
| David was born on 25 September 1923 in Bayonne, SW France, the son of British parents John Campbell Finlayson and Lilian Edith Finlayson nee Tipper. Educated in France until the family returned to Wolverhampton in 1936, David studied engineering at Wolverhampton Technical College. In July 1943 he was recruited by the Special Operations Executive (SOE) due to his linguistic skills. When he had completed all the courses he was considered too young to be placed in charge of a circuit so was given further training as a wireless operator. |
| His used alias Daniel Henri Grace. His codenames were Guillaume, Friar, and Rhymer and his radio callsign was Frockcoat. |
| Note that the dates of death for the three agents dropped from this aircraft are uncertain. The two Americans were added to the US Register of the Missing on 1 May 1945, whereas CWGC quotes 01 August 1944 and 30 September 1944 for Lt. David Finlayson. |

| Reason for Aircraft Loss | Successfully dropped but the Gestapo were waiting and immediately arrested him on landing as part of the 'Funkspiel' using previously captured radios and access codes. After interrogration he was transferred to Fresnes Prison, Val-de-Marne, Paris and then to Rawitsch Prison, Poland. When orders were received for his execution he was taken to KZ Gross-Rosen concentration camp. His body was cremated and he has no known grave. |
