Miscellaneous Information
Donald Biggs was the specialist radio operator aboard this flight. The aircraft was on the strength of the Wireless Intelligence and Development Unit (WIDU) but was operated by aircrew who were, at least to some extent, on loan from Bomber Command. It is unclear what unit Donald Biggs was from and he may not have been from Bomber Command, but is included here for completeness. WIDU was eventually renamed 109 Squadron and eventually would become part of PFF. |

Last Operation Information
Start Date | 08-11-1940 |
End Date | 09-11-1940 |
Takeoff Station | Boscombe Down |
Day/Night Raid | Night (70% moon) |
Operation | To investigate the German 'Knickebein' blind bombing radio beams |
Reason for Loss | Hit balloon cable and crashed in Stechford, Birmingham. This was almost certainly a special flight to investigate the German 'Knickebein' blind bombing radio beams, as the Anson was flying over the city during a raid. |
