Reason for Loss | Bounced as the aircraft landed back at base. Crew increased power to go round again but the undercarriage struck a van and careered into trees near Edith Weston, Oakham. It is thought that Sgt. Ratcliffe was the driver of the van, although his trade was Driver/Air Gunner, so it can't be ruled out that he was aboard the aircraft. Either way, he was badly injured, taken to RAF Hospital Rauceby and succumbed to his injuries the following day. |
