Reason for Loss | His static line got caught in the tail wheel of the Whitley, leaving him hanging on the outside of the aircraft, where he died of exposure before the aircraft returned to England. Realising that a coroner's hearing would endanger the security of the SOE, it was decided to drop his weighted body at sea from the bomb bay of the Whitley. Another agent, Father Robert Jourdain (a Jesuit priest) searched desperately for his colleague, not realising his fate. Leblicq was carrying the spade that they were to use to bury their parachutes, so Jourdain had to improvise as best he could. |
