Miscellaneous Information
John was born in Fort William, Ontario on 23 April 1920. His father was born In Galicia, Poland and worked as a labourer and his mother was also born in Poland. He had a sister Victoria, and brothers Edward, Joseph, Philip and Tommy. Joseph died on 8 December 1942. He attended the following schools in Windsor.: St. Angela 1925-1933. (General); Vocational school 1933-1937 (Machine Shop). Between 1937-1941 he worked as a machine operator (Pressman) at Universal Button Company Windsor. He then joined the army (No. 12 B.T.C. (AF) Chatham, Ont. Pte Oct/ Nov 1941). The sports John enjoyed were hockey, rugby and softball. |
John enlisted on 13 January 1942 and after training embarked from Halifax on 26 August 1943, arriving in the U.K. at 3 PRC on 2 September 1943. From there he went on to 5 AOS 19 October 1943, 23 OTU 23 November 1943, 61 Base 19 March 1944 and 138 Squadron 30 April 1944. He was killed one month afterwards. |
