Miscellaneous Information
Isaac was born on 20 March 1922. His parents were both born in Galicia, Poland and his father was a Furniture Merchant. He was one of three sons, a brother David Solomon and a brother Samuel, who sadly died at the age of fourteen. The family lived in Davis Street, Sarnia, Ontario. He was educated at Wellington Street school 1927-1929, George Street, Public School 1929-1931, Lochiel Street 1931-1934 and received an Honour in Matriculation when at Sarnia Collegiate Institution 1934- 1939. He was then a student at the University of Toronto studying Commerce and Finance for four years. Isaac had also been a member of the Canadian Officers Training Corps. at the University as a Sergeant. He had various jobs during summer holidays, for example.. Cashier, Store clerk, truck driver etc. and also as a Porter on the ss’Noronic’ in the summer of 1940 for the Canada Steamship Lines and as an Accounting Clerk for Imperial Oil Ltd, Oil refiners in 1942. |
Isaac took part in several sports including boxing, rugby, swimming and tennis. |
Isaac enlisted on 7 January 1943 and after training embarked for the U.K. arriving at 3 PRC on 8 May 1944 and then on through 8(O) AFU, on 13 June, 24 OTU, 61 Base 27 September 1944, 1666 CU 61 January 1945 and 433 Squadron 6 January 1945 |
