Miscellaneous Information
John was born on 3 March 1909 at Keppel, Ontario. His father who was born in Montreal, was a farmer and his mother was born in Kemble, Ontario. He had a brother, John and three sisters, Kathleen, Dorothy and Ruth. John attended Denholm and Barleston Public Schools, 1915-1925 (grade 8), Ruddell High School 1925-1926 (grade 10) then Battleford Collegiate Institute between 1926 - 1928 (grade 12). He worked for the Royal Bank of Canada as a bookkeeper 1928-1929, then for British American Oil 1929-1932 as a clerk. He worked on the farm with his father 1932-1935 and finally for the National Grain Company in Winnipeg, from 1935 until enlistment on 21 January 1942. |
After training he was sent to the U.K. and arrived at 3PRC on 23 July 1943. He then went to 5 AOS 14 August 1943, 19 OTU 5 October 1943, 61 Base 14 January 1944 and 138 Squadron on 18 February 1944. John was sadly to lose his life on 4 March 1944 after taking off from Tempsford on his 25th birthday. |
