Miscellaneous Information
Thomas was born on 11 June 1915 at Weyburn, Saskatchewan. His mother, who died in 1940 was born in Newcastle, New Brunswick and his father, who was an Electrical superintendent for the city of Weyburn has no birthplace shown. He was, however a naturalised Canadian. The schools he attended were Souris, Weyburn, 1922-1931 (grade 8) and then Weyburn school, 1931-1935 (grade12). He also attended the University of Saskatchewan 1936-1939 studying Accountancy for his final Bachelor of Accounting degree. His sport interests were boxing, hockey and baseball. His hobbies reading, writing stories and poetry. Thomas worked for Pittman Electric, Weyburn as an assistant accountant 1935-1936 and then for Thomas Rooke & Co. accounting 1938-1940. He then went back to University. From 1941 until enlisting he was working as a Timekeeper/Accountant for C.N. Rail in Malville. |
He enlisted on 29 October 1941 and after training embarked from Halifax on 28 March 1943. He was at 3 PRC on 5 April 1943, 2(0)AFU 26 July 1943, 24 OTU 7 September 1943, 1659 CU 8 January 1944 and 432 Squadron 18 February 1944. Sadly Thomas was to lose his life two months later on 12 April 1944. |
