Miscellaneous Information
Walter was born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia on 12 December 1921. His father worked as a steward but predeceased Walter. He went to New Glasgow School 1927-1935 where he completed the Course, then New Glasgow High 1935-1938 again completing the course. He then took a typing course in Nova Scotia 1938-1939. Walter worked as a Salesman for J.R. Murray, Furniture Retailers in New Glasgow 1938-1940 and he enlisted on 20 November 1940. |
After his early training Walter was sent to the UK and on 3 February 1943 he embarked from Canada and arrived at 3 PRC on 14 February. |
The sports Walter enjoyed were Hockey, Baseball, Basketball, Softball, Badminton and Quoits. |

Operation | Leverkusen. 266 aircraft, 5 losses (1.9%), probably due to bad weather around German airfields. Equipment failure on Oboe Mosquitoes prevented proper target marking and the other PFF aircraft had difficulty in making good due to the poor weather. At least six towns in the vicinity recorded bombs but only one fell on Leverkusen. |
Reason for Loss | Shot down near Dortmund, Germany, he was taken prisoner but was wounded. He was admitted to the Reserve Hospital, Kiachlinde-Dortmund where he died two weeks later. |
