Miscellaneous Information
Captain was born on 3 August 1912 at Gull Lake, Saskatchewan. Both of his parents were both born in Ontario and his father was a wheat farmer. He attended the Public School 1919-1926 and High School, 1926-1928. He also attended a Youth Training School. The sports he enjoyed were baseball and skating. His occupations included being a garage helper for A.W.Paulson at Netherhill, Saskatchewan in the latter part of 1937. He had also carried out all types of farm work for Crist Jenson at Gill Lake between 1930-1939, and was then running a tractor for Claret Mortinson for two months in 1940. |
Captain enlisted on 26 November 1940 at Calgary and after training embarked from Canada for the U.K. on 13 December 1941. He arrived at 3 PRC on 26 December 1941, 409 Sqn.13 January 1942, 61 Base 1 April 1944, and 419 Squadron 19 May 1944. Sadly, Captain was to lose his life on 13 June from 419 Squadron. |

Operation | Cambrai- to bomb railway facilities. Part of a 671 aircraft force to further hamper lines of communications leading to the Normandy area. Cambrai and Caen attacks were scattered but Amiens, Arras and Poitiers were accurate. 23 aircraft were Lost (3.4%) including that of Charles Mynarski VC, the subject of the Canadian Lancaster 'Vera'. |
