Miscellaneous Information
Lester was born in Ontario on 21 February 1945). His father, who was deceased by the time of Lester's enlistment, was a carpenter, born in Ontario, and his mother was also born in Ontario. He had 2 brothers, Reginald and Robert but Robert had died in 1937. Also sisters Edna who was married, Lona and Mary who had died in 1919. The schools he attended were in Toronto: Uxbridge 1922-1927, Parkdale Collegiate, 1927-1932, Timmins Collegiate 1935-1936 and Western Tech 1940-1941. Lester worked in Layout and Drafting, Toronto 1939-1941, then for Otis Fenton in Hamilton as a Foreman 1941, and for Dominion Bridge, Vancouver as an Inspector 1941-1942. His sport interests were Baseball, swimming and skating. |
He enlisted on 14 April 1942. After training Lester was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Canada on 14 December 1943, arriving at. 3 PRC on 22 December. He was at 4 (0) AFU on 19 March 1944, 14 OTU 25 April 1944, 86 OTUby 15 June 1944, 61 Base by 16 July 1944 and 427 Squadron on 23 August 1944. Lester sadly lost his life on 21 February 1945. |

The only large raid on this town of the war. 1116 tons of high explosives were dropped and the town was said to be 39% destroyed. 64% of the buildings were destroyed including the cathedral and many municipal and cultural buildings. 239 people were killed and 35000 bombed out (from a population of just 58000) |
