Miscellaneous Information
William was born at Chalford, Gloucester, England on 7 December 1914. His father was a carpenter born In Gloucester, England and his mother was born in Broadview, Saskatchewan. She sadly died just one week after the birth of her baby son. He had a brother Richard Thomas who was a Captain in the Canadian Army as well as a half sister named Thora. The schools he attended were Broadview Public 1921-1928; followed by Broadview High 1928-1932. The sports he enjoyed at school were hockey, tennis, softball and baseball. William worked as a teacher at Prairie Island School 1932-1938, and then for Broad View school Board as a teacher 1938-1940. |
He then enlisted on 23 October 1940. After initial training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Canada on 17 October 1941, arriving at 3 PRC 19 October. He was then at 22 OTU 25 November 1941, 405 Squadron 7 July 1942, and again at 405 squadron on 23 September 1942. Sadly William was to lose his life the following day, 24 September. This was his first operational sortie. |
