Start Date | 08-04-1945 |
End Date | 09-04-1945 |
Takeoff Station | Driffield |
Day/Night Raid | Night (18% moon) |
Operation | Hamburg- to attack the shipyards. 440 aircraft, 6 losses. Bombing was scattered due to cloud cover. Although some damage was probably caused to the shipyards, the American 8th Air Force had attacked the target only a few hours earlier so it was impossible to differentiate the damaged caused by the two raids |
Reason for Loss | Encountered fog on return and flew into trees while trying to locate the airfield. Crashed 2 miles west of the airfield |
