Miscellaneous Information
Alfred was born in North Cobalt, Ontario on 13 February 1924. His father worked as a Miner and was born in England, and his mother was born in Buckingham, Québec. The schools he attended were all Kirkland Lake. 1930-1936 (General, High School Entrance), 1936-1939 (Matric grade 11) and 1939-1940 (Vocational). His sport interests were hockey, baseball, badminton and swimming. Between 1940-1941 Alfred worked as an Electrician’s helper for City Electric and then as a Shipping Centre counter clerk for Northern Electric in Kirkland Lake from 1941 until enlistment. |
Alfred enlisted on 30 May 1942 and after training embarked from Canada on 16 July 1943. he arrived in the U.K. at 3 PRC on 23 July 1943, 18 (P) AFU 14 September 1943, 12 OTU 11 January 1944, 31 Base 7 April 1944, 1651 CU, 28 April 1944 and 138 Squadron on 7 June 1944. |
