Miscellaneous Information
Robert was born on 22 July 1922 in Brussels, Belgium. His father was born in Arcon, Belgium, an Insurance Inspector and his mother in Maine St. Paul, Belgium. He had an elder sister, name not shown. His father had deserted them in Belgium many years earlier. He attended the Notre Dame School between 1928-1938 (all subjects) and the Navigation High School , 1939-1940 (Navigation and Maths), both in Antwerp, Belgium. His sport interests were running, swimming and tennis, and he enjoyed a game of soccer. Between 1938 and 1941 Robert was a cadet working on Belgian Line freighters in Antwerp. |
Robert enlisted on 4 June 1941 and after training embarked for the U.K. on 1 May 1942. After arriving at 3PRC on 12 May 1942, he went to 3 AGS 6 June and then 24 OTU on 30 June 1942. No further entries are listed. |
He was still a Belgian citizen, although living in USA immediately prior to enlistment. He has a plot and headstone in the Brussels Town Cemetery Belgium Airmen's Field Of Honour. |
