| Memorial Text | On 17th January 1942 Stirling Aircraft W7467 of 7 Squadron RAF flying from RAF Oakington collided with a Hurricane Aircraft of No. 56 OTU and crashed 1.5 miles north of Earith. All crew members were killed. Ronald W Taylor RAAF DFM, Pilot; John W. Mahler RAF DFC, Pilot; James W. Waddell RAFVR, Navigator; Francis J. Lloyd RAFVR, W/Op; Alan J. Low RAFVR, Air/Gnr; Edward Blacklaw RAFVR, Flt Engr; D.M. Browne RAFVR, Pilot. These received Christian burials at Cambridge, Dundee and Thurrock. Walter Mankelow RAFVR, Air Gnr and James McCarley RAFVR, Air/Gnr are remembered on the Royal Air Force Memorial at Runnymede as having no known grave. The people of Earith, 7 Squadron Association and this Stone remember them. Per Diem Per Noctem. 7th November 1999. |
