Miscellaneous Information
Jack was born on 16 January 1922 at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. His father was born in Chicago, USA and was a buyer for Canadian Legion canteens and his mother was born in Arcola, Saskatchewan. He had two brothers, William Douglas and Robert Earl, who were both overseas in the R.C.N, and one sister, Patricia Claire. These schools he attended were in Mulvey, Saskatoon: Woodhaven, Caswell and Victoria (General) 1928-1937; then Daniel McIntyre High School in Winnipeg 1937-1938 (Jnr. Matric. XI). The sports he was interested in were football, hockey, baseball and golf and his hobby was typewriting. Jack worked at the Picardy Candy Co.1938-1940 as a Bus-Boy, and for Mr.Rogers at C.N.Telegraph as a route aide, 1940, also for a Mr. Jackson, at C.N. Telegraph, as a messenger 1938-1940. |
He enlisted on 28 May 1941 at Winnipeg and after training embarked for the U.K. on 30 April 1942. He arrived at 3 PRC 13 May 1942, 23 OTU 14 July 1942, 61 Base 4 November 1943, 1664 CU 19 November 1943, 424 Sqn 28 December 1943, and 405 Squadron 17 May 1944. Jack sadly lost his life the following month on 16 June 1944. |
