Miscellaneous Information
Roy was born on 1 March 1925 in Kingston, Ontario. His father who was born in Kingston was a war worker and his mother was also born in Ontario. He had four sisters, Mary, Joan, Nadine and Constance. They lived at 412 Montreal Street, Kingston. The schools Roy attended were, St John’s Separate School, Kingston 1931-1939, (Entrance) and Regiopolis High, Kingston 1939-1940 Grade 9. Roy’s sport interests were hockey, softball, rugby and swimming and his hobby was model aeroplanes. During 1940-1942 he worked doing general jobs for Macpherson’s Company and was then a Machine Shop apprentice for the Aluminium Co.of Canada from 1942 until enlistment. |
Roy enlisted on 1 November 1943 and embarked from Halifax for the U.K. on 25 June 1944. Arriving at 3 PRC on 4 July 1944 he then went on to 22 OTU 25 July 1944, 1661 CU on 1 November 1944 and then 432 Squadron on 28 December 1944. It was from here on 2 February 1945 that Roy sadly lost his life, shortly before his 20th birthday. |
