Miscellaneous Information
John was born on 18 March 1925 at Kostice, Czechoslovakia. Both parents were born in Czechoslovakia and his father was a farmer. His mother sadly died in 1930. There were two brothers, Joseph and Frank and a half sister Annie. He attended Sterling Galt school 1932-1940 (IX). He worked in farming between 1940-1942 and was then at Boeing Aircraft Co. between 1942-1943 when he enlisted. The sports he took part in were hockey, softball, baseball and volleyball. |
After enlisting on 20 April 1943 at Vancouver, he was posted to the U.K. when he had finished training. He embarked from Halifax on 14 December 1943 arriving at 3PRC on 22 December. From there he went to 26 OTU on 25 January 1944, 31 Base 26 May 1944, and 90 Squadron 28 July 1944. It was from there that John sadly lost his life the following month on 30 August 1944. |
Martin Husum, owner of the field where the aircraft crashed, later found an identification tag, which he passed on to the leader of the resistance movement in Aalestrup, blacksmith Arne Dantoft, who sent it to Toldstrup, who in turn sent a wireless message to London about the find. It was said that the tag had this inscription, "GB 153326 officer H.E. Allman CE-RAF" and that all of the airmen were buried at Aalestrup Churchyard. |
