Miscellaneous Information
Cyril was born on 4 September 1922 at Spruce Bluff, Saskatchewan. His father was a liquor store vendor who was born in Michigan, USA and his mother was born in Illinois, USA. He had brothers Laine Lambert and Keith James and a sister Beverly Ella. The schools he attended were Meadow Lake, Public 1929-1936 and then High school 1936-1940. He then spent six months at Saskatchewan Technical Collegiate Institute in 1940, studying aeronautics. The hobbies he enjoyed were hunting and music and for sport he played baseball, football,and hockey and occasionally tennis. During 1938-1939 Cyril worked as a clerk and then took on odd jobs until enlisting on 3 March 1941. |
After initial training he embarked from Canada on 8 January 1942, arriving in the U.K. at 3 PRC on 21 January. He was then at 14 OTU on 2 June 1942, 156 Sqn 12-September 1942 and 426 Squadron on 3 November 1942. Sadly Cyril then lost his life on 5 March 1943. |

Operation | Essen. 442 aircraft, 14 losses (3.2%). This raid included the 100000th raid of the war. 56 aircraft turned back due to technical defects, 3 of which were Oboe equipped target markers. The remaining PFF Mosquitoes marked the target perfectly, however, despite the usual haze that obscured the town. Some 160 acres of destruction were wreaked with 53 separate buildings of the Krupps works hit. More than 3000 residential properties were destroyed. |
