Operation | Dusseldorf. 479 aircraft, 33 losses (7.1%). PFF used pink pansies to accurately mark the target. 39 businesses in Dusseldorf and a further 13 in neighbouring Neuss were put out of action. Almost 1000 houses destroyed and 19427 people bombed out. |
Reason for Loss | Hit by flak over Maastricht damaging the port engines. Port outer engine eventually fell from its frame after regaining the English coast and the starboard inner engine seized. Crash landed ESE of Colchester. |
