Miscellaneous Information
George was born on 1 January 1921 at Bedford Mills, Westport, Ontario. Both parents were born at Bedford Mills where his father was a farmer. The schools he attended were Bedford Mills Public, 1927-1935 and then Athens High School, 1935-1938 (Jnr. Matric). His sport interest were hockey, basketball and softball, and his hobbies, hunting and tinkering with gasoline engines. George had no specific occupation when he enlisted on April 15 1940. |
When his initial training in Canada was completed he was sent to the U.K. and embarked on 26 December 1940. After arrival he went to 20 OTU on 5 January 1941, 149 Squadron 9 April 1941 and 57 Squadron on 17 April 1941. This young man was still only 20 years old when he lost his life just two months later on 27 June 1941. |
