Miscellaneous Information
Russell was born in Kitchener, Ontario on 29 November 1924. His father was born at Lindsay, Ontario and was in the army overseas and his mother was born in Kitchener. He had a brother Frank Henry and sisters Patricia, Frances and Dorothy. His schooling was in Kitchener: Victoria Separate School 1924-1938, (General) and Victoria Collegiate Institute, 1938-1939 (General). He enjoyed all sports and his hobby was woodwork. Russell worked for Kruger Furniture as a cabinet maker 1939-1940, for Beatty Washer as a Repair man, 1940-1941, then for Coca Cola as a Salesman 1941-1943 (all in Kitchener). He spent a short spell in the Air Cadets at Kitchener in 1942. |
After enlisting on 20 August 1943 and early training, he embarked for the U.K. on 25 May 1944 and arrived at 3 PRC on 3 June 1944. He then went to 22 OTU 11 July 1944, 61 Base 18 October 1944 and 415 Squadron in March 1945. Russell was to lose his life the following month on 10 April 1945.. |
