Operation | Aachen. 170 aircraft t attack the Rothe Erde railway yards. 12 Lancasters Lost (7.0%). This target did not sustain sufficient damage in the raid of two night previous and so was attacked again on this night. This time significant damage was inflicted, preventing any through-traffic. The suburb of Forst was also 'razed to the ground' according to a local source. The local hospital, some army buildings and 21 industrial buildings were hit along with 613 homes. 167 people were killed and 167 injured. |
