Miscellaneous Information
The pilot (P/O G W Lawson) had a lucky escape when he found himself under the port wing as they both hurtled towards the ground. He was able to push himself clear and landed uninjured in shallow water. He was arrested and became a PoW |

Ronald was born at Penetanguishene in Ontario on 4 December 1918. His father was born in Ontario and worked as a teacher and his mother was born at Goderich. He had a sister Patricia Margaret and a brother, J/8938 F/O Julian Frederic Sweet, who died on 20 November 1942 when his 150 Sqn aircraft crashed on a second attempt at landing near RAF Manston (http://losses.internationalbcc.co.uk/loss/122745). The School he attended was Sault St. Marie Collegiate Institute 1934-1939. He worked at Algold Gold mine 1938-1939 at Goudreau, Ontario as an Assayer, then for Algona Steel Corporation in Sault Saint Marie as a Brakeman. His sport interests were swimming, photography, canoeing and fishing. He also made the flies for fishing. He enlisted on 24 July 1941, embarking for the U.K. after his initial training. He left Halifax on 25 March 1944, arriving in the U.K. at 3PRC on 3 April 1944 and continued to 19 OTU on 2 May 1944. |
