Miscellaneous Information
Arthur was born on 17 March 1920 at Toronto. His father was born at Winchester, Ontario and was a church minister and his mother was born in Aberdeen, Scotland. He had a brother David Fowler Summers and a sister Laura Margaret. He went to Kenobert Public school, Saskatchewan 1927- 1933 and then Rocanville High 1934-1937. He was at Yorkton, Collegiate, 1937-1939, and he was also undertaking a Correspondence Course in Airplane Mechanics with Brisbane Aviation Company. The sports he took part in were swimming and gymnastics and occasionally hockey. His hobby was building models. |
He enlisted on 4 June 1940 and after training, was posted to the U.K., embarking from Canada on 19 August 1944. He had travelled overseas and flown in India but had returned to the U.K. in 1944. He was then involved with flying Hurricanes in fighter affiliation duties with 1695 Flight. It was whilst trying to land at RAF Dalton after a night flying test, that he sadly lost his life, on 9 February 1945. |
