Last Operation Information
Start Date | 21-06-1944 |
End Date | 22-06-1944 |
Takeoff Station | Fiskerton |
Day/Night Raid | Night (2% moon) |
Operation | Wesseling- to attack a synthetic oil plant. 139 aircraft, 37 losses (27.8)- one of the highest loss rates of the war. The target area was completely cloud-covered so H2S Lancasters were used instead of Oboe low-level marking. Only slight damage was caused to the oil plant yet the German report states a 40% loss in production, possibly only for a short period. |
Reason for Loss | Shot down by a night-fighter and crashed near Jülich-Mersch |
