Miscellaneous Information
Arthur was born on 28 June 1923 at Dunfermline, Scotland. His father was born in Hull, Yorkshire and was an electrical engineer and his mother was born at Hill of Beath, Dunfermline. He had a sister, Christine. The schools he attended were Prince Edward Public, Winnipeg, Manitoba 1929-1937 followed by Lord Wolsley High School 1937-1941 (Matric). The sports he enjoyed were soccer and swimming. Arthur worked as a helper for about a month erecting generators for Canadian General Electric at Beauharnois, Quebec, in 1941 and then enlisted on 24 September 1941. |
He embarked from Canada 4 August 1944, arrived 3 PRC 11 August 1944, 61 Base 2 September 1944, 1659 CU 14 September 1944 and 431 Squadron 23 November 1944. Sadly, Arthur was to lose his life on 6 January 1945 having completed 5 sorties on this second tour. |
