Miscellaneous Information
Ernest was born on 20 November 1916 at Manyberries, Alberta. His father was a farmer, born in Norway and his mother was born in the USA. He had six brothers, one and of whom had died, and five sisters. The schools he attended were Public schools between 1922-1929 then four years of High schools 1929-1935 at Iron Springs, Alberta. The sport he indulged in was baseball. He spent about three years between 1935 and 1937 farming and then was a labourer at Canadian Sugar Factories at Picture Butte, Alberta, 1937 - 1940. |
Ernest enlisted on 17 September 1941 and after training was posted to the U.K. He embarked from Canada on 27 October 1942, arriving at 3PRC on 6 November 1942 and on to 6 (P) AFU on 17 November 1942, 23 OTU 23 February 1943, and 429 Squadron on 14 May 1943. Sadly the following month Ernest then lost his life, on 22 June 1943. |

Operation | Krefeld. 705 aircraft, 44 losses (6.2%) with night-fighters counting for most of the losses (the night was moonlit). PFF marking was near-perfect (using Oboe). A large fire in the centre of Krefeld raged unchecked for many hours. Over 5500 houses destroyed, 1056 people killed and 72000 bombed out of their homes. |
