Miscellaneous Information
Melville was born at Oyer , Alberta on 21 June 1921. His father was born at Chelsey, Ontario, and was deceased by the time of Melville's enlistment, and his mother was born at Arkona, Ontario. He attended Ridge Public school 1927-1934 followed by Leamington High, 1934-1940. He worked for H. J. Heinz Co. He started as a field hand with tomatoes between July and August when the season finished. He then worked in the pulp department of the tomato factory between August-October when that season also finished. he enjoyed swimming and shooting as sports, belonged to the Boy Scouts and had a St. John’s Ambulance Certificate. |
Melville enlisted on 16 September 1940 and after training was posted to the U.K., embarking from Canada on 13 December 1941. He arrived at 3 PRC on 21 December 1941 then went to 7 AGS 27 May 1942, 420 Sqn 28 September 1942, 1659 CU 28 October 1942, 405 Squadron on 8 November 1942. Sadly Melville lost his life shortly afterwards, on 29 November 1942. |
