Miscellaneous Information
Victor was born at Kenora, Ontario on 30 November 1923. Both parents were born in Poland and his father, who was deceased by the time of Victor's enlistment, had worked as a Millwright. He had a married sister, Mrs. Valerie Karaim, and four brothers: Lawrence, Adolph, William and Carl. He attended Kenora Public School 1929-1938 followed by the High school 1938-1939. He also studied a vocational course at Fort William in Sheet Metal rivetting between 1940-1941. His sport interests were skating, football, baseball, and he enjoyed target shooting. Victor worked as a Rivetter in 1941 for Canada Car Foundry and then as a Camp Clerk for Minnesota Pulp & Paper for a few months before enlisting on 24 October 1942. |
After initial training he embarked from Halifax on 20 January 1944 arriving in the U.K. at 3 RCAF PRC on 1 February 1944, 6 (0) AFU 14 March 1944, 10 OTU 25 April 1944 and 41 Base 14 July 1944. Sadly Victor went missing from 1658 HCU on 13 September 1944. |
