Miscellaneous Information
Left the aircraft clinging to Sgt R P Longley but fell to his death as the parachute opened. Sgt Longley was awarded the CGM for his attempt to save his friend's life. He was himself very badly injured after landing in a tree and spent six months in carious hospitals. |

Operation | Neuss- to attack railway targets. 147 Lancasters from 1 and 3 Groups. 1 aircraft lost. Some of the bombing was in the intended area but many bombs also fell throughout the town. 1749 houses were destroyed along with 19 industrial buildings |
Reason for Loss | Bombs jettisoned over the target area due to a racing engine. Lost height and soon became impossible to control. Abandoned and crashed at Nethen, near Leuven, Belgium. |
