Miscellaneous Information
Thomas was born on 7 November 1918 at Lethbridge, Alberta. His father, deceased, was born in London, England and had worked as a Storekeeper, and his mother was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He attended school at Mercoal, Alberta 1924-1931 (general course grade 8). Between 1931 and 1934 he undertook occasional work as a farm labourer. He then worked as a Salesman 1934-1937 at a hardware shop in Abbotsford, B.C., as a seedsman for D. Spencer 1937-1939 and then 1939-1941 for Macfarlane Super Seeds in Vancouver. His sport interests were skiing, swimming, badminton, and skating. As a hobby he enjoyed shooting and gardening. |
Thomas enlisted on 20 February 1941 and after training embarked for the U.K. where he arrived at 3 PRC on 24 March 1942. He went on to 4 S.S 8 May 1942, 20 OTU on 16 June 1942, 218 Conversion Flt. 8 September 1942 and 149 Squadron 24 October 1942. Thomas sadly lost his life the following month, on 16 November. |
