Miscellaneous Information
Benjamin was born on 26 July 1917 at Ottawa, Ontario. His father was born at Kars, Ontario and worked as an Attendant at the Oliver Institute and his mother was born at Manotick, Ontario. He had a brother Alexander, and sisters Katherine and Alma Agnes. All three siblings were working in the RCAF. The schools he attended were Rosedale school, Hanna, Alberta, 1923- 1929 (grade 8) and Hanna school, Alberta, 1929-1931 (grade 12). He played most sports and his hobby was his Scrapbook of current events. He worked as a Store Clerk 1934-1936, as a Bread Salesman 1936-1940 and as a Fireman for Edmonton City Fire Department during 1940-1942. He then enlisted on 23 March 1942. |
When Benjamin had finished his training he was posted to the U.K. and embarked from Halifax on 27 May 1943. He arrived at 3 PRC on 5 June and then went to 14(P) AFU 13 July 1943, 82 OTU 28 September 1943, 61 Base 18 January 1944 and 427 Squadron on 6 March 1944. Sadly Benjamin was to lose his life on 28 May 1944. |
